Imagine having a car that has the classic looks of a Tri-5
Chevy combined with the ability to handle curves like a slot car,
stop on a dime, and accelerate like a rocket. It’s easy when an Art
Morrison “GT Sport” chassis is part of the equation. We made it
happen by putting the chassis underneath an otherwise-stock
1955 Chevy, dropping in a 427 c.i.d. small block Chevy crate
motor (dyno rated at 530 HP), and running the power through a
Keisler Automotive T-56 6-speed. The car, dubbed “GT55,” was
driven from the Morrison shop near Tacoma, Washington down to
California Speedway just east of Los Angeles, where the editors
of Super Chevy magazine put it through its paces. But before we
get into the test data, you’ve got to know that the car was a ball
to drive, got all kinds of positive response from automotive
enthusiasts, and even got over 20 miles-per-gallon gas mileage
on highway stretches. Everything we could hope for!
The Super Chevy guys took the car as it was driven,
including the very same BF Goodrich tires that went down the
highway all the way from Washington, and conducted skid pad,
slalom, acceleration and braking tests. They were visibly
impressed. And the numbers speak for themselves.
Now you can build this same kind of fun machine yourself
and enjoy performance equal to an exotic sports car. It’s a
project that most competent do-it-yourselfers can accomplish
in their home garage. Little or no welding will be required.
Our “GT Sport” chassis opens up a new era in hot rod fun! It's
also an excellent investment in upgrading your ride's value.
